Our Mission:
The Depressive Manic Depressive
Association of Virginia (DMDAV) is a not-for-profit organization
whose mission is to educate patients, families, health and
counseling professionals and the public concerning the nature of
depressive disorders as medical diseases; to foster self-help for
patients and their families; to eliminate discrimination and
stigma; to improve access to care; and to advocate.
The National Organization
The National Depressive
Manic-Depressive Association (NDMDA) is located in Chicago,
Illinois. It was founded in 1986 and has now grown to 265
chapters Nationally. The organization was founded for the mutual
support and information for persons with depressive and
manic-depressive disorders, and their families. It provides
public education on the biochemical nature of depressive
illnesses. Annual conferences abd chapter development guidelines
are formulated and carried out by the Chicago Headquarters. NDMDA
produces a quarterly newsletter. It also maintains a bookstore,
catalog, with mail orders possible. Contact: NDMDA, 730 N.
